About the Role

As our People Services Manager, you will play a crucial role in shaping and leading a dynamic, people-centric HR function. You will be responsible for driving continuous service improvement through innovative people strategies, streamlined processes, and effective use of technology. This position combines both strategic and hands-on leadership responsibilities. We have recently implemented a new people system, Itrent, and there is significant potential to optimise this system further.

This position is a 12-month maternity cover based at our Head Office in Darwen. Hybrid working options are available.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Team Management: Lead and inspire the People Services team to drive alignment, operational excellence, and efficiency, ensuring people operations are scalable, agile, and aligned with the strategic goals of the business.
  • Business Change Leadership: Support the People Partners, and lead where necessary, on business restructures, redundancies, TUPE transfers, and acquisitions, ensuring a seamless and positive experience for new colleagues joining the group.
  • Wellbeing & Inclusion Leadership: Drive the wellbeing and inclusion agenda, including overseeing the development of Mental Health First Aid training in collaboration with specialist partners.
  • System Optimisation & Innovation: Harness People system capabilities to drive operational efficiency, enhance the colleague experience, and support data-driven decision-making. Lead the evaluation, implementation, and optimisation of People technology platforms to ensure seamless integration and real-time insights.
  • Legislation Compliance & Policy Updates: Stay current with changes in employment law and legislation, proactively adjusting People policies and procedures in response to new regulations. Educate leaders and the wider organisation on legal updates and drive necessary policy and process changes to ensure compliance.
  • Data-Driven Insights: Take a data-first approach to HR, developing and presenting people insights that inform business leaders and drive strategic decision-making.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for an inspiring leader with proven experience in team management and a solid grasp of current employment legislation. Our ideal team member will provide insightful, commercially-focused people advice, empowering leaders to harmonise employee needs with business objectives.

Exceptional communication skills are vital for building rapport and influencing others across all levels. The ability to analyse data and trends will enable us to uncover valuable insights and take decisive actions.

Experience in engaging stakeholders and fostering collaboration among cross-functional teams is essential. Familiarity with developing and enhancing HR systems, particularly Itrent, will be highly valued. While experience in retail or healthcare is preferred, it is not a requirement.
