About the Role
As a BI Analyst, you’ll be the link between our business teams and Data Engineering function. You’ll use trusted data sources to answer business questions, create meaningful reporting and provide insight that supports decision-making.
You won’t be responsible for building the underlying data platform – our Data Engineering team looks after the databases and data models. Instead, you’ll focus on using data to solve problems, tell the story behind the numbers and help the business make better decisions.
No two days will be exactly the same. You could be working with stakeholders to understand a reporting requirement, writing SQL, building a dashboard, investigating a data discrepancy or supporting a wider business project.
Key Responsibilities
Work with stakeholders to understand their reporting needs and translate business questions into practical data solutions.
Write and maintain SQL queries using pre-built databases and reporting views.
Build and maintain Workday Adaptive Planning sheets, models and reporting structures.
Create and enhance reports and dashboards using Workday, Power BI and other reporting tools.
Work with Data Engineers to understand available datasets and map data into Workday and other business applications.
Support API and data integrations, as well as the onboarding of new systems and data sources.
Work across multiple databases and systems to extract, analyse and present accurate information.
Validate reporting outputs, investigate discrepancies and highlight data quality issues.
Support business projects by exploring data, testing assumptions and providing evidence-based insight.
Identify opportunities to automate recurring reporting and improve existing solutions.
Maintain clear documentation for reports, SQL queries, business definitions and reporting logic.
About You
You’re naturally curious, analytical and enjoy getting to the bottom of a problem. You’re comfortable working with data, but just as importantly, you can take what you find and explain it clearly to people who may not have a technical background.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
Strong SQL skills, including querying, joining, transforming and analysing data.
Good understanding of relational databases such as Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL or similar.
Experience building reports, dashboards or analytical outputs from business requirements.
Experience with BI/reporting tools such as Workday or Power BI.
Experience using Microsoft Excel for data analysis.
Comfortable working across multiple databases, systems and data sources.
Strong analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work with messy or incomplete data and clearly explain its limitations.
Confident stakeholder communication skills.
Desirable:
Experience using Jira or similar project/work management tools.
Experience working with data warehouses or reporting databases.
Experience with Workday, Power BI or similar BI tools.
Experience within retail, healthcare, optical or audiology.
Most importantly, you’ll be someone who is curious, pragmatic, collaborative and meticulous. You’ll be comfortable asking questions, challenging unclear requirements constructively and asking, “What decision are we trying to support?”
What’s Next?
